Grassi & Associates founder Mark Grassi leads the team crafting bespoke residences and wineries that meld into the Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara landscapes. A Northern California native, he opened his eponymous Napa construction firm in 1989.
With winter upon us, we think of Lake Tahoe with its snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear water, and classic cabins. Grassi admires two architects who have worked in the area: the firm Mork-Ulnes Architects and the late Henrik H Bull. Mork-Ulnes, with offices in San Francisco and Oslo, combines the aesthetics and sensibilities of both places in their projects.
Grassi built a Napa mountaintop compound nearly twenty-five years ago, which architect Jim Jennings created. The modernist masterpiece survived the 2020 Glass Fire, but parts of the 60-acre wooded property suffered damage.
Grassi & Associates were deeply saddened to learn of the esteemed architect Howard Backen's passing on July 22 at the age of 88. The builders collaborated with his firm, Backen & Backen, on many projects, from private estates to boutique wineries. Backen's restrained agrarian style shaped Wine Country aesthetics.
Grassi & Associates partner Paul Niles joined the company in 2000, finding a kindred spirit in Mark Grassi's approach to business and building. Like the rest of the team, he is collaborative and values the relationships he develops with clients, architects, and subcontractors.
Grassi & Associates love to build and bike! The annual Spring Social and Bike Ride survived a Pandemic, drought, and fires. Once again, this May, the team invited architects, designers, associates, friends, and family to celebrate Napa's unique landscape.
Grassi's Spring Social and Bike Ride features a 55-mile loop that runs from their offices in downtown Napa, through the Carneros region of Southern Napa, over Mount Veeder, then back down the Vine Trail to the Grassi parking lot for local food, wine, and conversation.
At Grassi & Associates, we understand the importance of having a good team. Carpenter and foreman Felipe Arana brings to each of the projects he works on a passion for the craft and attention to detail. The Jalisco native has been with Grassi for over two decades, and our staff also includes his brother, son, and nephew.
